#albumbluesrock - Лучшие Альбомы Блюз Рока

album_br_10-2025
#albumbluesrock. Today, the 10th edition of the album blues rock was released. We will recap what was especially memorable about the distant 1995, get acquainted with 3 releases of this year, and look into 2022.

Kris Pohlmann Band - Relentless (2025). Six years after the release of the album Feel Like Going Home, Chris Pohlmann is back with a new album called Relentless. According to the artist himself, these were six long years during which life tirelessly threw Chris everything it could. From the birth of his son Freddie, a global pandemic that forced the cancellation of tours, the loss of four family members, and ending with two spinal surgeries, this German guitarist of British origin has experienced all the good, the bad, the ugly and embodied it all in this 10-track record. A fiery riff on a heavily distorted guitar, a drum rhythm infused with cowbells, and an anthemic chorus with soulful backing vocals and a soothing piano part - all this fits into the first minute of the album's opening track "It's Only Love", which was also released as a single earlier this year. The artist sings in his signature tough manner about how love is the only thing we are fighting for. The composition "Same Old Lies" is built on a funky groove using a hammond. Bluesy guitar strumming is heard throughout the composition. It is followed by another heavy track called "Change Your Mind" - a bold guitar riff accompanied by coordinated work of the rhythm section in the opening bars of this song sounds almost like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers of the early 90s on steroids, absolutely mind-blowing.

William Wallace Band - Worn Thin (2025). William started playing drums at age three, guitar at age seven, and was playing drums professionally by age nine with his father, Jeff Wallace, in the Cheyenne Band. Over the course of his career, William has shared stages with Pat Waters, West of Nowhere, Scotty Emerick, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Steven Poynter, Kyle Bennett, and many more. Great country rock with a bluesy edge. A worthy record.

Kulhu & The Vigilantes - Solace In The Blues (2025). A must listen. A Greek band, so psychedelia is a must. This is their second release. The first was released in 2022 under the name Good Day To Die.

Steve Hophead - Steve Hophead (2022). In the digital age, analog rock music is a refreshing alternative! The band, which includes singer-songwriter Stefan Imobersteg, offers a powerful, organic sound with a strong voice. Formed for the final of the Swiss Blues Challenge 2019, the five musicians quickly realized that their interaction had its own magic and created music that could captivate people. The original compositions were finalized and recorded in 2021 in the Shoomroom studio in Goldswil with the expert help of sound engineer Andreas Hunziker and his Studer tape recorder. In combination with the illustrations of the Bernese photographer Reto Camenisch, a very harmonious album has emerged. Thanks to their musical skill and experience, the musicians are able to perform both on large stages and in small, intimate spaces and offer the audience a touching, exciting concert experience.

1995 was considered a turning point in blues rock. Everything that was created up until 2010 was unique, not without the help of country, indie, alternative and grunge. It was then that the migration of country artists to the world of blues-rock through country rock began. Since 2010, new experiments in the form of neo-blues-rock began, ending with an explosion of blues-rock, which continues to this day.

Mad Season - Above (1995) - Ravaged and moody, Mad Season's Above fits right into the grunge catalog and is a must-listen for alt-rock fans. Sonically, the album feels raw, with sparse instrumentation and moody lyrics. Unlike other bands that drew more from punk or metal, Mad Season excel at their bluesy signature. Saunders plays a supporting role on bass, not being the star but still the backbone of the band's cohesive sound. Meanwhile, McCready leads on these bluesy tunes, drawing inspiration from guitar icons like Stevie Ray Vaughan with heavy, syrupy flourishes heard on "Artificial Red." Martin, on drums, provides a driving energy that elevates the band's intensity, most noticeably on the energetic track "X-Ray Mind." The album's unusual drum variety further cements Mad Season as a band to remember, gently stretching the musical expectations associated with their Northwest region. But even surrounded by such accomplished musicians, Staley's vocals remain on another level. Freed from the constraints of his work with Alice in Chains, Staley pushes the boundaries of his expressiveness on "Wake Up" and writes some very expressive lyrics for the band's most popular song, "River of Deceit," which also brings one of the few glimmers of light to an otherwise gloomy atmosphere.

The Jeff Healey Band - Cover To Cover (1995) Blues-rockers The Jeff Healey Band's cover-version concept is not immediately appealing: as much as one admires the chops displayed by the blind Toronto guitarist-guest, the band's songwriting is somewhat hampered by the lyrics. Cover to Cover works to circumvent the combo's basic limitations. The disc opens in grand style with a dramatic, original instrumental take on The Yardbird's "Shapes of Things." Some of the inclusions, like Spirit's "I Got a Line on You," make you want to return to the original versions. If any of them can steer new listeners in the direction of the originals, a valuable public service will have been rendered. Given that the Jeff Healey Band's previous release, Feel This, was largely weak, it's no surprise that the Toronto blues-rock trio have gone the covers route. Some of the tracks (like an instrumental version of Led Zeppelin's "Communication Breakdown" featuring Blues Traveler harpist John Popper) breathe life into the originals.

Morphine - Yes (1995) Morphine were an amazing band. The combination of a two-string bass, drums, and a guy playing two saxophones at once shouldn't work, but it did. The music is raw and hard. Unlike most rock 'n' roll, the songs come from experience. On their third release, 1995's Yes, Morphine moved away from the more accessible direction they'd established on 1994's excellent Cure for Pain, taking a more complex (but equally rewarding) direction. While singles/videos "Honey White" and "Super Sex" had a pop edge (and were the album's best), other tracks like "The Jury" and "Sharks" pushed the envelope, featuring lyrics that sound like a stream of consciousness. Like its predecessor, this is a highly coherent album - even the lesser-known tracks are integral to the album's overall feel. "Scratch," "All Your Way," "I Had My Chance," "Free Love," and "Gone for Good" all sound like the observations of a broken man wallowing in despair. But the mood brightens on tracks like “Radar” and the title track, as well as the aforementioned singles. In 1995, when almost every alt-rock band sounded the same and angrily pounded their instruments, Morphine found themselves in a league of their own.

Craig Erickson - Two Sides Of The Blues (1995) Craig's third album showcases his penchant for Hendrix-esque funk grooves and a phenomenal blues playing that puts him in the same league as the world's greatest rock/blues players. After recording a string of popular heavy blues-rock discs for Blues Bureau International in the '90s, including the first disc to feature legendary Deep Purple/Trapeze/Black Country Communion singer Glenn Hughes' return in 1994, simply titled “Blues,” with whom Erickson co-wrote all the tracks.
